Birdwatch Magazine Britain List
The list of British birds published by Birdwatch Magazine, and produced by Dominic Mitchell and Keith Vinicombe. The list was published initially in 2006, and then updated in 2008, 2010 and 2012. This list is somewhat more liberal than that of the BOU but more conservative than the one produced by the UK400 club. As a relatively new list, albeit a carefully thought-out one, the jury is still out as to its uptake by British birders.
Although the list applies to Britain (and the Isle of Man), it does contain an appendix covering additional species recorded only in Ireland. As a result, the Birdwatch authority can be used for lists in Britain & Ireland or smaller units (i.e. countries and counties) of this area.
The updates in the fourth edition of this list (February 2012) are the addition of White-winged Scoter and Slaty-backed Gull, and the splitting of Whimbrel and Sandwich Tern. In addition, the species order has been changed, in addition to a number of minor changes to English and scientific names.
Species currently considered as comprising the Birdwatch List for BUBO Listing purposes are shown below.
