I don't see Great Shearwater (Puffinus gravis) anywhere on the NZ list?

Several accepted records I believe and 1 seen and photographed very well from this year's 2011 West Pacific Odyssey on 20/04 - the first full day at sea so Hauraki Gulf region should qualify it as a NZ record too.

Unfortunately the NZRBN list has not been kept up to date so there are a number of species, and taxonomy changes, that are missing. A new NZ checklist was produced last year: "Checklist Committee 2010. Checklist of the Birds of New Zealand, Norfolk and Macquarie Islands, and the Ross Dependency, Antarctica. 4th ed. Wellington, Te Papa Press". We haven't been able to get a copy of this list electronically. If anyone is able to get this, or even do a tedious comparison of the book with the "old" online version we could update the BUBO listing version.

Pending being able to do a full update of the list based on the new checklist, I have anyway added Great Shearwater to our NZ list.

Thanks Mike...even my pics leave no doubt as to the ID so only a matter of waiting for the Kiwi's to join the computer age and issue the excel!!
