Getting Started

If you're new to BUBO Listing, then welcome on board! First thing to do is to get yourself registered: at the left of the page click where it says 'Register'. All we need from you is:

Your name (first name and last name) as you wish it to appear to other users (e.g. Fred Bloggs). Enter your real name please - pseudonyms are contrary to the spirit of transparency of BUBO Listing and we may remove users who do not use their real names. And please, NO SHOUTING!

Your email address, to give us a chance to contact you in case there is a query. Your email address will not be passed on to other listers, nor will it be made available to a third party, without your permission.

A username for the sole purpose of logging into the system (e.g. fredb1). This will need to be unique; you will informed if you choose a username already in use by another birder and asked to choose another one.

A password for the purposes of logging in. Whilst passwords are encrypted by the software running BUBO Listing, we recommend you do not use a sensitive password (e.g. anything you also use for online banking). Passwords need to be at least six characters and contain no spaces. They are also case-sensitive (e.g. elephant is not the same as ElePHanT). You will also be asked to re-enter your password for confirmation. Note that if you forget your password it can be reset by the system if you know your username and e-mail address. However we cannot access your passwords for you, nor can we unencrypt them.

Your country, which is defaulted to United Kingdom but can be changed. Whilst most BUBO Listers have been UK-based so far, we welcome birders from across the world!

The registration form also asks for various other pieces of information, which are all optional. In time we would like to use this information for more analysis so please complete it if you can.

Finally you must agree to the terms and conditions for using the BUBO Listing website.

When you have entered all the necessary details correctly and hit the 'Register' button you will be sent an activation email (if you don't receive one of these fairly quickly then check your junk mail and if you still can't find it then contact us). You must click the link in this email before your account is activated. Once you have successfully registered, then simply enter your username and password in the boxes on the left-hand side of the page, and you're ready to go!
