American Birding Association (ABA)

ABA The American Birding Association (ABA) is "a non-profit organization that provides leadership to birders by increasing their knowledge, skills and enjoyment of birding." The ABA maintains a checklist for its area which is carefully assessed and regularly updated.

The complete ABA checklist refers to North America north of the Mexican border. It excludes Bermuda, the Bahamas, Hawaii and Greenland. Within BUBO Listing, the ABA authority can be applied to lists for Continental North America (i.e. the "ABA Area") and certain sub-units thereof.

The most recent update of the ABA list was in November 2007 (version 6.8) when the most significant changes were the addition of Light-mantled Albatross Phoebetria palpebrata, Parkinson’s Petrel Procellaria parkinsoni, Gray Heron Ardea cinerea, Intermediate Egret Mesophoyx intermedia, Swallow-tailed Gull Creagrus furcatus, European Turtle-Dove Streptopelia turtur and Pallas’s Warbler Phylloscopus proregulus, and the decision to split Bean Goose into two species, Taiga Bean-Goose Anser fabalis and Tundra Bean-Goose Anser serrirostris.

Species currently considered as comprising the ABA List for BUBO Listing purposes are shown below.
