Species Lists and Authorities
Clements World List

There are a number of different world bird lists available. We have decided to follow the The Clements Checklist of the Birds of the World
as our authority for our launch of BUBO World Listing (although we may well add alternative authorities in time). The 6th edition of this recognised standard world list was published in 2007 and, following the death of Jim Clements in 2005, is now being maintained by the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. Cornell are publishing regular updates to the list and BUBO Listing will endeavour to keep up with these updates. The latest updates incorporated to date are those published on 8th October 2007.
Not surprisingly, the taxonomic treatments of various species or subspecies differ between Clements and other authorities. If you are unclear about how any species you have seen relates to the species listed in Clements, then contact us and we will endeavour to help. Even better, why not buy the book through the BUBO Store?
Species currently considered as comprising the Clements List for BUBO Listing purposes are shown below. Note that the Clements authority may be available for entering BUBO Lists of smaller regions than the entire world. In such cases, the base-list available will be cut-down appropriately, based on the lists maintained by Avibase, the excellent website managed by Denis Lepage and hosted by Bird Studies Canada.
