New Zealand Recognised Bird Names
The list of New Zealand Birds used by BUBO Listing is based on the 'New Zealand Recognised Bird Names' made available by the Ornithological Society of New Zealand. The OSNZ was founded in 1939 and aims to "foster the study, knowledge and enjoyment of birds".
The checklist currently used is derived from the 3rd edition (1990) of the OSNZ's Checklist of the Birds of New Zealand and the Ross Dependency, Antarctica and includes subsequent decisions of the Rare Birds Committee of the OSNZ. If you notice that any species are missing from the list used by BUBO Listing (especially recent rare visitors added to the list), then please contact us and we will investigate with a view to adding the species as soon as possible.
