FAQ Species Lists Official Britain and Ireland List

Not really a single authority at all, but created by BUBO Listing for those listers who prefer the BOU list, but wish their list to apply over both Britain and Ireland.
This list is effectively the BOU list, plus any further species that have been accepted by the Irish Rare Birds Committee and/or the Northern Ireland Birdwatchers' Association. Note, however, that there is not currently a definitive Irish Bird List and until such time as there is, BUBO is maintaining an unofficial list for Ireland with the help of several Irish birders. For the time being, four species included on our Irish List are not included on the 'Official Britain and Ireland List': Wood Duck Aix sponsa, Baikal Teal Anas formosa, Northern Flicker Colaptes auratus and Indian House Crow Corvus splendens. The list maintained by the Manx Ornithological Society is also considered, although at the present time there would be no additional species added as a result. The Channel Islands are not included within this list.
The latest update of the BOU list (and thus of the Official Britain and Ireland authority) within BUBO Listing is the 36th report of the BOU Records Committee. The main features of this report were the addition of Magnificent Frigatebird Fregata magnificens and Olive-tree Warbler Hippolais olivetorum and the decision to treat Caspian Gull Larus cachinnans and American Herring Gull Larus smithsonianus as separate species.
